CERTIFICATE OF CREDITABLE COVERAGE AND INTERNATIONAL GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE
VALID COI (CERTIFICATE OF CREDITABLE COVERAGE)
As you are aware, regular enrollees on group plans have a 12-18 month waiting period for pre-existing medical conditions. This waiting period can be waived partially or entirely depending upon whether the enrollee can provide a valid Certificate of Insurance (COI) and the duration of the previous coverage.
For the COI to be valid there can be no more than a 63-day gap between the expiration date of the prior coverage and the effective date of being added to the group plan. If the gap is larger than 63 days, the COI is of no value.
