GROUP COVERAGE FOR EMPLOYEES OVER 65

INCLUDING EMPLOYEES OVER 65 ON GROUP COVERAGE

It is always best to exclude those over 65 from group coverage. The first reason is that group insurance coverage is based on average age. Older folks will raise the average age and then the rates. Secondly, those over 65 tend to have more medical problems and this will also raise the rates. We suggest, when getting a new quote, always exclude those over 65 from the census.

Almost all employees over 65 are on Medicare A & B & D. We suggest these folks have a medical evacuation policy so that if they need medical care they can get back to the USA. Also it is good for them to have “Medicare Supplement” coverage. This will cover whatever Medicare does not cover. “Medicare Supplement” coverage is “guarantee issue” coverage if purchased in the time frame of six months before their 65th birthday and six months after their 65th birthday. Please contact us if your employees are looking for Medicare Supplement coverage.
