SURPLUS LINES CARRIERS AND THE NEW U.S. HEALTH LAW
NEW U.S. HEALTH LAW AND SURPLUS LINES INSURANCE
Surplus lines insurance is insurance that provides coverage that cannot be easily procured in the conventional insurance marketplace. Because of that it is not subject to all of the various state insurance laws. Surplus lines insurance is offered when traditional insurance is not available. Surplus lines policies accept risk and are unattractive to conventional domestic insurers.
Most of the international health insurance companies are classed as surplus lines insurers. In general, they will not be affected by the new U.S. health law. However, they may make some adjustments on their benefits in the light of this new health law.
