HOW THE NEW U.S. HEALTH LAW WILL AFFECT GROUP INSURANCE

GROUP INSURANCE AND THE U.S. HEALTH LAW

NGOs and companies will be required to provide insurance for all employees who are on W-2s. There will be three ways to get insurance:

  • Medicaid: If a family of four is making $29,000 or less, they can get on Medicaid; however, this will not go into effect until 2014. If the employee gets on Medicaid or any other government-funded insurance, their employer will be required to pay an added tax of three to eight percent--based on the employer’s payroll.
  • State Exchanges: Small groups will be able to get insurance through these exchanges. However, these exchanges will be more expensive than Medicaid.
  • Private Group Insurance: Purchased through private insurance companies. They and also State Exchanges will also need to raise their rates.
