INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PLANS FOR WIU STUDENTS
STUDENT INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
Due to the high cost of medical care in the USA, major medical insurance coverage is mandatory for all students attending the University from other countries. Coverage must be obtained immediately upon arrival at the University. A minimum, six-month policy must be obtained from the WIU - preferred provider (Good Neighbor Insurance, Inc). The International Program Liaison (IPL) will assist students in obtaining this insurance upon arrival. Coverage must be maintained throughout the course of study at WIU. Coverage must include:
- Exceeds J1-visa requirements
- Outpatient Care Coverage
- Hospitalization, Doctor Visits, Outpatient Surgery
- Medical evacuation and / or repatriation benefit
- Student Insurance Benefit Chart
This requirement must be maintained, and is monitored by the University throughout the students’ attendance at WIU.
INTERNATIONAL SHORT-TERM HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS
International short-term health insurance can become effective in less than 24 hours. It is used primarily for those traveling and studying in the United States; covers medical care, medical evacuation, return of mortal remains, Accidental Death and Dismemberment as well as other benefits.
