The differences between lowest price travel insurance, budget, silver or platinum – Comparing plans

Understanding travel insurance rates

Choosing travel insurance or international health insurance – Understanding travel insurance rates

Travel Insurance rates – Understanding the differences between “lowest price,” discounted (or budget), silver or platinum travel insurance rates and plans. Which should I choose? Watch the short video above >>

“Is there any real difference between these plans and what you get for the money?”

We generally classify travel insurance, as well as international health insurance (which is for those living overseas more than a year or two) into…

Four categories with four rates:

a.) “Lowest price” plans
b.) Budget (and those discounted for charitable work/missions) plans
c.) Silver (U.S.-comparable) plans
d.) Gold and Platinum (full-featured) plans with vision, dental,…
What are the differences? – A quick summary follows

Why the difference in cost?

  • Differences in the number of benefits and maximum benefit amounts
  • The number of direct-pay agreements
  • Customer service experience
  • Speed when reimbursing claims

The lowest price travel insurance – Why is it so cheap?

Traveling on a shoestring budget? For those wanting the cheapest travel insurance available, we have plans to fit your needs!
Often these plans are best described as “emergency insurance” or “catastrophic policies.” Their claims process may take a little longer to process – Because, “You get what you pay for!” Often these insurance companies offer the best price, but still must maintain offices in the U.S., have employees to handle underwriting, claims processing, etc. but due to the low rates, may have less staff than those companies charging a bit more – So things take a bit longer.
Even with the cheapest plans available online, we still “hand-select” each carrier and plan we offer to guarantee that you are dealing with only reputable, well-established companies. Do not take chances with your health in an emergency! We can help you find the right plan at the right price to fit any budget.

Budget and discounted travel insurance plans (and discounted international health insurance)

“Budget plans” tend to have the best “benefit-to-price” ratio for those traveling to volunteer or doing missions work. Charitable groups and individuals like these plans because we have unique contracts in place and offer specific discounted plans (exclusively for the use of volunteers and missionaries) at very affordable rates. Travel on a budget?

Silver travel insurance and long-term international health insurance plans

“Silver” plans (as well as Gold /Platinum plans) are going to cover more items for those 65+, if you have a pre-existing medical condition (generally they will be covered under these types of plans), more “direct-pay” agreements with hospitals and doctors (so you do not need to pay the full amount up front and get reimbursed later), better customer service, more direct accessibility calling in, mobile apps to submit claims, etc.

They will also cover more areas incl. high-risk nations such as travel to Israel.

Gold and Platinum insurance plans

Gold and Platinum plans will usually also offer dental, vision, maternity benefits, usually AD&D benefits, higher maximum dollar amounts, and have fewer exclusions. Since these tend to be offered by larger companies, they will also usually have more staff and be more responsive. Mobile apps, wellness checks, and more options. This is less important for travelers, but are more important for those living and working abroad for more than a year or two.
