Van Life: Nomad Lifestyle Trends

December 7, 2020 By : Administrator

Have you heard of Van Life?

In this article, we will discuss what Nomad Van Life is, who lives this lifestyle and to stay protected- even with a nomadic lifestyle like this one.

What is Van life?

“To put it simply, van life is an alternative lifestyle adopted by many nomads looking to live a basic lifestyle, while being able to travel the world with freedom and ease.” – Projectvanlife.com

In order to live in a van, these nomads will adapt their vehicle to include basic amenities like a sink, a battery for electricity, a bed, and sometimes even a shower. Vans can range anywhere from an old fashioned VW van associated with surfers, to a fully decked out commercial-style sprinter van.

Are you a Nomad?

Who lives this lifestyle?

Many people! The hashtag #vanlife has over 8 MILLION posts on Instagram, with many different types of people following and posting their nomadic lifestyle.

While life on the go appeals to many people, generally those partaking in this unique way of life are young adults who are tech-savvy and adventurous. Common interests overlap with adventure sports like surfing and rock climbing- including famed climber Isaac Caldiero who lived in his van preparing for his runs on show American Ninja Warrior.

Nomad Van Life became popular with the rise of the gig economy, new standards in working remotely, and the popularized minimalism brought to the states by influencer Marie Kondo.

How to Stay Protected

Are you a digital nomad?

As you may have guessed, without a home address it can be difficult to obtain official documents- things like driver’s licenses, passports, and even insurance.

Typically insurance, both domestic and international, require a home address in order to complete their process called underwriting. The address also tends to be where important, and legally required documents are sent. However, the Van Life nomadic lifestyle (as with other nomadic lifestyles) presents a challenge in making sure these documents can be delivered.

Luckily there’s a new solution.

With the rise of the internet, a few cutting edge insurance companies have found a way around the address requirements, making it possible to cover specifically those living a nomadic lifestyle with medical insurance, travel insurance, and even life insurance.

This means that even you can live a nomadic lifestyle like Van Life and still have insurance to cover you in case of emergency, or illness.
