If you visit Ireland, there are some particular foods

July 4, 2016 By : Allison

If you visit Ireland, there are some particular foodsIf you visit Ireland, there are some particular foods you need to make sure you try. Like most western countries, Irish food is commonly made from potatoes, cabbage, raisins, and some kind of meat. Below you will find some traditional, popular, and original Irish food.

• Barmbrack
Barmbrack is a traditional sweet bread, usually made for Halloween in Ireland. “Lucky” items are always baked into the bread. Some of these items are a “gold” ring, a coin, and a rag. The person who gets the ring will be married that year, the coin brings prosperity, while the rag represents bad luck or poverty. Barmbrack ingredients include dried fruit, water, dry yeast, warm milk, and butter.
• Irish salmon and smoked salmon
Both wild salmon and smoked salmon are commonly eaten in Ireland. Wild salmon is only available from April to June, when it is in season. Typically wild salmon is poached and served with a white sauce, potatoes, and spring greens. Smoked salmon is usually eaten on soda bread.
• Boiled bacon and cabbage
This is a typical family dish in Ireland. Bacon, or ham, is boiled, then cabbage and potatoes are added. These are all boiled until the meat is tender and sometimes may also added salted pork as variation and parsley sauce.
• Colcannon
Colcannon, a potato dish, first became popular in the late 16th century. Potatoes are abundant in Ireland, making this dish a favorite there. Colcannon is made with mashed potatoes, and either kale or cabbage, then flavored with scallions, milk, and butter
• Irish Stew
Irish stew is traditionally made from lamb meat, potatoes, and onions, all stewed for hours until tender. For the best results, stew the ingredients for at least two hours and don’t forget to sprinkle the stew liberally with parsley after it has simmered for a while.
