Protecting our Domestic Non-Profit Friends Needing Insurance for Travel in the U.S.
Is your group/staff doing great work in the USA?
Too many of our many friends working in the USA are faced with lack of health insurance protection especially when outside their health insurance coverage area. (They are doing great work with under-served populations, with seniors, in the inner cities, in arts advocacy, education, justice issues or with marginalized groups but insurance carriers don’t treat them special due to the value and merit of their work.)
Imagine a small circle around your home/work. Depending on your health insurance plan, the farther you go outside your circle, the less and less safe you usually are. Many of you have been asking us about staying safe in the USA when you travel away from home and your health insurance network. For affordable insurance for travel in the U.S. for conferences you attend or camps you hold or for volunteers coming to join you for short periods.
The risks you face traveling in the U.S. with only your current ACA health insurance:
Lack of medical coverage due to ACA “skinny networks” and reduced options for medical care, as well as Medicaid not protecting you/your clients or staff outside your particular area, or while traveling to conferences, etc. has become a HUGE PROBLEM for all of us.
Unfortunately, most people travel under the illusion that their health insurance is protecting them even though they face grave dangers as soon as they travel away from home, their network, and their approved doctor list. And things only got worse after Obamacare, when insurance carriers attempted to save money and remain profitable by reducing care options and reducing the number of hospitals (Aka skinny networks) that will accept your insurance.
Of course, this isn’t true for everyone. Some have a great group health plan through Cigna or Aetna or GeoBlue/the Blue Cross Blue Shield network that covers them wherever they go as long as they are in the USA.
(DID YOU KNOW MOST U.S. DOMESTIC HEALTH PLANS ONLY COVER YOU IN THE USA, OR IN LIFE-AND-DEATH SITUATIONS OUTSIDE THE USA? Or that you will still have to pay the $10,000-25,000 in emergency evacuation back to the USA if you need to get home for treatment? That’s why we mostly do international medical plans to protect travelers and non-profits outside the USA for about $1.50 a day!)
Is there an affordable solution to insurance coverage when you travel in the U.S.?
We have found an affordable health insurance option to protect friends and non-profit workers like you, your families, your students and volunteers when you/they might be traveling, going to “camp,” going to conferences, visiting family or have family coming to visit them. Tell them about: https://www.gninsurance.com/travel/short-term-us/ihc-secure/
The IHC plan for travel away from home in the USA features $50 co-pays and medical coverage up to $2,000,000 while away from home, and it uses two nationally known PPOs for coverage.
It is also underwritten by Standard Security Life, which is rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company, Inc.
An example of a 41-year old male (for a month’s coverage) would be $75.00 to $120 for the month depending on your deductible or other choices in benefits. It’s almost exactly the same for a 17-year old female just to give you a general idea of cost. And best of all, if you know people or have staff waiting to get on your group health plan or for an open enrollment period, they can get on this plan while they wait! Tney can also cover their family. And use it locally – They don’t have to be traveling to be eligible. It is available on a monthly basis for up to 3 months at at time.
Our Plan B: Emergency Evacuation Only for Travel within the USA:
Another option for those who already have U.S. domestic coverage is our MedJet Domestic Medical Evacuation Only program that will transport you to the hospital of your choice. More at https://www.gninsurance.com/travel/evacuation/medjet-usa/.
Our special MedJet program isn’t medical insurance, but supplements your domestic medical insurance by transporting members back home, to the hospital of their choice, that is in their network, in an emergency. It’s perfect for those attending sports camps, or are up to age 75, since it is available for both adventure sports and seniors.
• No health questions
• No deductibles or copays
• No claim forms
There is only an annual plan (no monthly plan offering for now) but it only costs $185 a year and includes unlimited trips, so it is still pretty affordable if you want to guarantee getting transported home without incurring huge emergency ambulance or emergency air transport costs.
The other huge benefit to you
Contact Good Neighbor Insurance for insurance when you travel in the U.S., because our plans cost you the same as if you went direct, but you also get free our additional expert support, advocacy, and assistance – All at no additional cost to you! (The carriers pay us what their internal salesperson would make, and you get free, the added benefit of all of our experience and help and support!)
So what do you need to do to get coverage? It’s really simple.

- Choose “Get a Quote” or “Buy Online” (There is no obligation)
