This video describes some of the insurance companies that provide missionary insurance plans that Good Neighbor Insurance offers to the missionary community and mission agencies, for absolutely no extra cost than if you went direct! You get additional service and someone easily reachable by phone to get answers, and the carrier pays us out of their internal sales commission – So our service is effectively free to you! we can also help you get the plan that fits best for the best rate, saving you money so as a missionary, you do not need to raise as much.
A brief summary of the video:
Insurance is about peace of mind and protection, so we at Good Neighbor Insurance won’t just sell every carrier’s plans. We only offer A-rated insurance companies and missionary insurance plans. The B-rated and C-rated we don’t provide because we only want the best for our clients, and why would you want to be offered clearly inferior insurance products? It goes without saying that we are cautious of the companies and plans we share with all of our clients, including missionaries overseas.
We really get to know the insurance companies we work with, and are advocates for our clients as they use their insurance benefits. Our insurance companies are also our internal clients, and these great companies are saying to GNI, “You can be our sales arm, we’ll take care of you, so you can take care of your clients” The bottom line is that we have extremely good relationships with our insurance companies. We value that and pay close attention to how they treat our customers. We have a free downloadable .pdf explaining the benefits of having a broker and advocate here.
There are three major areas of international insurance that Good Neighbor Insurance provides: Group insurance for organizations, Short-term insurance for groups such as short-term missions trips and missionary teams, NGOs, and nonprofit organizations sending groups of people on short trips overseas, and individual & family plans for long term missionary assignments overseas, short trips, sports insurance, multi-trip plans for frequent travelers, trip cancellation insurance, international term life insurance and personal property. We have researched these additional products as our clients have asked for help. For example, we have had missionaries traveling to countries with current unrest and have asked about coverage, which is how we started providing international kidnap & ransom insurance, as well as war and terrorism.
Insurance companies we work with and why:
IMG: One of the top companies we started working with in 1999. They even have an entire department dedicated to serve missionaries and faith-based organizations with specific missionary insurance plans. They are excellent in three main areas: premiums, benefits, claims.
Azimuth: We started with them around 2010. They are a smaller company that is great at adjusting and changing to better serve their clients. A couple of highlights about their international insurance is that they provide strong maternity coverage, and are very conscious of their premiums. We widely recommend their long term career insurance and their short trip travel insurance plans!
WEA: In the fall of 2013, they contacted us, and then Doug Gulleson visited their company for a couple days. Doug was very impressed by them, and the rest of our team here at GNI was soon to follow. This company is willing to help, and their claims processing and medical evacuation team is all done and carried out “in house.” Like IMG, they have provided excellent service, affordable insurance for missionaries and they are continuing to grow as a company.
GeoBlue: We started with them in about the year 2000. They recently partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Bupa. On their career health insurance, they have unlimited coverage in US, instead of the normal six months, and outstanding maternity. Overall, very broad coverage to help with anything needed, such as long missionary furloughs and even returning permanently to the U.S.
Bupa: A great and popular European company. They are a high end plan with unlimited benefits, no deductible, sports coverage with few exclusions, and additional benefits such as personal liability and trip cancellation insurance. Claims are also very easy. BUPA NO LONGER ACCEPTS APPLICANTS FROM THE USA due to ACA health laws.
Global Underwriters: The Diplomat International and America plans are great if any of our missionaries are participating in any extreme sports or playing other international team sports. Global Underwriters is an excellent company that provides exceptional international sports insurance.
Seven Corners: We have been with them since we started in the industry. They are great for international organizations using contracted travel insurance for short term missionaries, mission sending agencies and short-term teams. Also great individual plans, such as for furlough insurance.
HCC: They slimmed down to international travel insurance plans, limiting some of the sports coverage as well. They have an individual and family plan, and a great plan for teams and group of people needing international travel insurance.
Hiscox: Specialty insurance in niche markets.
Petersen International Underwriters: A great company with a wide variety of coverage including, term life insurance with cover for war and terrorism, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)/high limit accident, and special underwriting in niche markets.
Clements: Another great company we work with that provides international term life insurance also which is more affordable than Petersen but missing some unique benefits that Petersen provides, which may or may not be necessary for you.
WEA, IMG, and Azimuth: Really fit the criteria and budget for missionary insurance for groups, and employer health insurance for faith-based organizations, NGOs, and nonprofit organizations. All handle smaller groups as well, even under ten people.
GeoBlue: Stronger benefits, ACA compliant in the USA with BCBS and a better stronger well-known network worldwide
Aetna and Cigna: When taking care of your staff is your primary concern, strongest benefits, primarily designed for larger, more traditional groups and those wanting top-level service, dedicated teams serving them, and ACA compliance to meet current healthcare laws in the USA.
