Having a terrorism benefit on international insurance is vital to have today while traveling outside your country of residence. The act of terrorism is attacks that aim to evoke the feelings of discomfort against a group of people. Acts of terrorism are carried out suddenly, resulting in many civilian casualties killed by accident. In the international world, terrorism is not a new thing. Since the World Trade Center (WTC) incident in New York on September 11, 2001 that took 3000 lives, terrorism has become commonplace for the wider community. This tragedy is known as the “September Gray.” Since 2000, Southeast Asian countries have become known as the countries with the most terrorism acts in the world. For example are Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
The emergence of terrorism in Southeast Asia is due to the globalization of the jihad ideology propagated by Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda organization. Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani explains this in his article, “The Globalization of Jihad: From Islamist Resistance to War Against the West.” It explains that since the cold war, countries now face challenges from anti-American Islamic religious background groups. For example, in the Bali bombing on October 12, 2002, 184 people were killed and injured about 300. The majority of these people were Australians and other foreigners. As a result of this act, and many others, countries are now working together to fight terrorism. The bombings which occurred in Bali were a great blow for Indonesia. Some efforts were done because of the bombings:
- The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs issued a travel warning for its citizens while on holiday to Bali.
- Indonesia issued the ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which contains:
* Conduct an intensive investigation of the cases related to terrorism
* Cooperation between investigators with domestic intelligence and improved coordination with concerned countries.
