THE HEART AND SOUL OF GOOD NEIGHBOR INSURANCE – WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO:
1. Concern for the world.
Business matters because people matter. Caring for people and serving their needs is the basis for good business and for everything we do. Serving you. Keeping you safe. (And during times of crisis, disaster, extreme need or poverty – By demonstrating love and doing what we can to help.) Business matters because people do. Business is one way that people are served and their needs are met. And having served overseas ourselves, we focus on serving non-profits, faith-based charitable groups and those who work to make real change possible.
To make the world a better place.
We make choices as a business that reflect our global concerns. These include investing, partnering, and choosing to specialize in the non-profit, charitable, and social good sector.
We purposefully give back. Both with our time and our money. We share space with a non-profit charity to save them money. We travel overseas almost every year to help/serve local organizations.
Our latest partnership is with the local group, “Cinta Baca” (“Love to Read” in English) in Indonesia and recognized by President Joko of Indonesia. We have designated 2% of our profits to them to help open new libraries/book stalls.
In Indonesia, books can be expensive for the poor, and only 1% of schools have a library, this creates a barrier for young girls and boys to become literate and can limit their dreams and their mobility as well as their ability to later take care of their families.
2. “Second-mile” service.
We purposely choose to work harder so our clients do not, and be inconvenienced so our clients are not. We understand our clients are in other time zones, with spotty internet, and are focused on solving bigger issues – So we do what we can to make their work easier.
We make sure we offer our clients and friends only the best insurance, that fits their need (not our need, or a sales quota). Always.
We speak English in a world that speaks “insuranese.” And we take the time to translate insurance language and terms so that our clients understand what they are getting.
We believe that our carriers, and our co-workers, are also our “clients” and we serve them and each other with respect, attentiveness and integrity.
We “earn” our reputation daily (and client’s referrals/trust) by resolving issues for clients, and getting answers to their questions, rather than trusting in our “reputation.”
3. Protecting clients
Call it “Staying true to our origins.” Practically. Protectively. Looking after others. It’s the meaning behind our name “Good Neighbor Insurance.”
No one loves insurance. We don’t even particularly like “insurance,” but we’re committed to keeping our clients safe. And due to where our clients work and travel, good insurance is the best option. (Or a medical/political evacuation plan. Or war and terrorism coverage.) And it’s a much better choice than having an emergency.
We listen. We anticipate, and we do what we can to keep our clients safe.
It’s also why we work with multiple carriers. Because no one plan or carrier is going to best protect every client in every situation. We choose our carriers based on how they treat our clients, how they respond to claims, and not just their credit ratings (Although we only sell top-rated carrier’s products).
We also believe that integrity leads the way. We create and work in an environment of honesty and integrity because it is the best interest of protecting the client. We do not just abide by industry standards or BBB Standards of Excellence, but exceed those standards and lead the way. We often tell people that our goal is to do good to all–When we interact with someone or something WE WANT TO LEAVE THEM BETTER than they were before. Enriched. More valuable. Better informed. Equipped. Safer.
GOOD NEIGHBOR INSURANCE – OUR MISSION:
“Good Neighbor Insurance serves and protects travelers, expatriates, and international organizations, using our professional and overseas experience in order to help clients select the best, most cost-effective, insurance.”
Broken down, it means we “do good to all” by…
serving
We serve our clients by practicing personalized, Second-Mile Service, and offering affordable overseas insurance options. Nobody “loves” insurance, but we do our best to make sure you have a good experience, and good insurance at a very good rate – quickly and easily. Answering each call directly, offering clear understandable answers (in plain English), sorting through the myriad of insurance options to locate the best choice so you don’t have to, help with applications, help with any claims challenges and making sure our carriers provide you with the same level of honest, caring service that we provide our clients.
protecting
Because service alone does not ensure you will be safe overseas, or select the right plan, we at GNI take very seriously our primary job: To keep our clients safe overseas whatever the purpose of their travel. We do that primarily by making sure you have the right policy to fit your unique needs. We also make sure our carriers and plans perform as promised by checking back with our clients and checking on our carriers’ performance.
“travelers”
It’s a fact. 70%-75% of travelers travel unprotected and unprepared bodily and financially (even though travel medical insurance is a great deal at only $1-2 a day). We are committed to changing that statistic. We make sure we have a full complement of offerings for all kinds of travelers and all kinds of travel, so that there is no reason to travel unprotected. Some travelers need international medical insurance, where others only need emergency evacuation or a plan to cover adventure sports or high-risk travel to countries as an aid worker or photojournalist.
“expatriates”
Those living overseas and those working overseas long-term have different needs from travelers going overseas. And our personal experience and professional expertise reflect those needs and concerns: For individuals, for those who are older, for families, and for those having children overseas (even those considering overseas adoption as an example).
“international organizations”
Whether non-profit or a social good business, mission agency or international business, we have carriers and plans to meet a wide spectrum of organizational needs from very affordable group insurance to executive-level premium plans, we serve our groups through organizing our company into two departments: Individual/Team Department and our Group Department: Specializing in low (sustainable) renewal rates; multiple carriers and group plan; customizing group plans to benefit each organization; and offering comprehensive group supplemental insurance to meet each client’s need; with an emphasis on non-profits and social good/business for good.
“professional experience”
Our agents are licensed in 46 states and hold to the highest ethical standards. We are members in good standing with the BBB and the NAHU. Since 1997, we have sought to gain knowledge and expertise in our products and to share that knowledge though person-to-person phone calls, though blog articles, and much, much more. We also partner with other MGAs in order to add levels of service and prompt answers to our clients’ questions due to volume of business so that carriers have incentive to be prompt, work with our clients, and give us their full attention. We are known by the carriers and work closely with their underwriters. We are advocates so that a client doesn’t need to go directly to an insurance carrier and find out they have no recourse and no relationship or direct line into the company.
“overseas experience”
“We’ve been there.” Unique to Good Neighbor is the almost 100 years of personal overseas experience and understanding we bring to our clients. We know what they need and what they don’t because we’ve been there ourselves. Concern for the world: Our staff continues to go overseas and volunteer. We share your concern and your mission of service to the world. It causes us to get up in the morning – Rather than simply trying to make a sale.
“help”
As mentioned, we focus on “helping our clients” rather than simply making a sale. Being helpful means focusing on getting the right policy or making the best recommendation to begin with so that each client’s expectation and budget is met.
“select”
By offering multiple carriers and plans, we can help our clients select the one that fits them best. With our years of practice, we can usually narrow down your options with just a few simple questions – Eliminating the guesswork and making choosing insurance quick and easy. Our sales agents are paid a salary, not on commission, and bonuses based on team goals so there is no competition or pressure to make a sale. They are paid to help one another and to help you.
“best,”
We offer only select insurance plans and have a unique relationship with multiple top-rated carriers. And we continue to hold all of our carriers to a very high standard because our clients fully expect that from us and their insurance carrier. It’s why so many of our clients tell their family and friends and so much of our business is by referral.
Why would we want to offer the “most programs or plans” if that means some are clearly substandard, offer cheap, inferior products, or cannot hope to know those carriers personally or work closely with them?
“most cost-effective”
Because it’s not good insurance if you’re paying too much or if it doesn’t fit your needs.
Cheapest doesn’t mean it will protect you (in any specific situation) based on your age, destination, activity, or financial situation – So we focus on “best, most cost-effective” rather than “cheapest.” Some clients are looking for higher benefit limits or a higher deductible for the best price, others want specific protections for a pre-existing condition or maternity coverage. So we locate, and offer, the “most cost-effective solutions” to fit each person’s need.
“insurance”
Not just “health insurance,” or “group health insurance” – but comprehensive international insurance such as term life insurance (because domestic life insurance won’t protect you if you are living overseas), emergency evacuation, Kidnap and Rescue, D&O and other supplemental insurance – in order to keep all our clients safe. We are proud to offer comprehensive travel solutions to travelers, expatriates and international organizations. And “do good to all.”
We do good as a company by helping:
