The most popular places visited by tourist in Paris

October 10, 2016 By : Allison

Many people say that Paris is a romantic city that is rich in culture. This is not only because of its buildings, but also food, art, and music. It’s no wonder that tourists from all over the world visit Paris. We agree that Paris is a romantic city and here are some of the most popular places that make it that way:

• Eiffel Tower (La Tour Eiffel) is the icon of Paris. It is located in Champ de Mars. You can enjoy the beauty of the Eiffel Tower in the day time, but at night it is lit up by beautiful twinkling lights. A great way to enjoy the view is to eat in one of the restaurants on the tower. There are also souvenir shops, and even a post office so you can send a post card directly from the Eiffel Tower!

• Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre) is a former imperial palace of France that is now the largest museum in the world and one the most famous museum in Paris. The Louvre is the most frequently visited museum in the world, with over 8 million people visiting every year. The museum contains more over 380 thousand objects and displays over 35,000 pieces of art at a time. The permanent collection is 652,000 ft2. The most famous well-known work of art in the Louvre is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. Two other masterpieces that became popular after The Da Vinci Code are the Louvre Pyramid and inverted Pyramid.

• Arc de Triomphe, or the Victory Gate, is the second most popular monument in Paris after the Eiffel Tower. It is the biggest gate in history. The gate was built to celebrate Napoleon’s victory when he won against Austria in the Battle of Austerlitz. The gate is located in the middle of Place Charles de Gaulle, at the end of Champs-Elysees street, Paris, France.

• Place de la Concorde is the main town square and is located near Tuileries Gardens and Champs Elysées. It is surrounded by important buildings and tourist attractions. Some of the square features are an Egyptian obelisk, water fountains, statues, and artistic lampposts. Place de la Concorde has been used for several movies, including The Devil Wears Prada, Star Trek, and the novel, Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

• Notre Dame de Paris (Notre Dame Cathedral) is the most famous church in Paris. It is on Île de la Cité, a small island in the middle of Seine River. Construction on the cathedral began in 1163, and was not completely finished until 1345. During the French Revolution in the 1790s, much of the cathedral was damaged. Restoration began in 1845, and then in 1991, another restoration began. Notre Dame is considered one of the best examples of French Gothic architecture, and was one of the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress. Both the inside and the outside of the cathedral are beautiful, as well as the scenery.
