General question on Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability

Q. Are there any other underwriting requirements that the client will have to do in order get this policy in place?

A. Upon review of the member health statement, we may ask for more information, exam or lab work.

Q. Do you have a specific list of criteria for what determines if they are disabled or eligible for the disability benefit?

A.  The person is eligible for benefits if they are unable to work because of illness or accident.  We do not have a list.

Q. If the policy holder has a medical condition that warrants them to return to the US for treatment (I.e. bone marrow transplants) and they aren’t necessarily unable to work, but they are unable to return to their overseas work – would this policy cover them for the duration they are receiving medical coverage in the US, as long as it’s past the deferral period?

A. The policy covers if they are unable to work due to disability.

Q. If they suffer from a mental health condition (i.e. PTSD or Schizophrenia, etc.) that does not allow them to return to work at all or just overseas for AMI, would this policy cover them after the deferral period? Would they receive coverage for their first 24 months? If so, and they still cannot return to work after the 24 months: Will  they continue to receive benefits?

A. Mental and/or nervous disorders coverage is for 24 months only.

Q. If they had any employee’s that are currently unable to work because of ongoing medical treatments or mental health issues, would they covered excluding their current ailments or would they need to be excluded from the policy all together?

A. Per the Group Application all employees must be Actively at Work on the effective date of the policy.  Any employees hired later and added must be actively at work on the date of hire/addition.

Q. If they want to pay a monthly premium, is there an administration fee? How do they get set-up for this payment plan?

A. 5% admin fee.  Note this in the appropriate place on the Group Application.

Q. If they want to bind coverage, would they be able to set up and enroll everyone two months from now?

A. Yes with Group Application, final complete census and signed/initialed proposal.
